Jonesboro, AR (January 3rd) – Standing out in the crowd of competitors to get your marketing message across to potential customers has always been a challenge for small businesses. Fortunately, with today’s technology small businesses can “Stand Out from the Herd” and use cutting edge tools to grow their business.
The ASU Small Business and Technology Development Center is offering a “How to Write a Winning Marketing Plan seminar on Tuesday, February 5th at the ASU Delta Center for Economic Development to share innovative and easy to master tools that small business owners can use for little or no cost to improve their marketing message and grow their business. The seminar will be offered twice on Thursday, 1-4 pm and again 6-9 pm.
89% of small business owners said that marketing was the top priority for their success, yet 73% admitted that they did not have any type of marketing plan,” stated Herb Lawrence, ASU SBTDC director. “The challenge for most of these small businesses is that they feel that they lack the resources, time, or knowledge to create such a plan. In this workshop we will show small business owners how to create and use a plan that will actually save them time, use existing resources more effectively, and help them reach new customers to improve their bottom line”. A simple marketing plan will help small businesses learn how to focus on their very best customers, how to locate them, communicate with them, and drive more sales to their business with less effort. In this short 3 hour workshop attendees will receive the tools they need and the resources to actually create a plan that will significantly improve their marketing efforts and bring more customers to their business.

JONESBORO, Ark (March 18th) - The Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center along with the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Jonesboro Association will offer Arkansas Sales & Use Tax Seminar Tuesday, April 9th from 1-4 pm at the ASU Delta Center for Economic Development.
Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center and Arkansas Tax Associates, Inc. are hosting a small business workshop, in room 201 ASU Delta Center for Economic Development building, 319 University Loop West on the ASU campus for area business owners on Arkansas Sales and Use Tax for Small Businesses. This 3 hour workshop is designed to inform business owners of current sales tax laws, help them prevent overpayment of sales tax, educate them about the increased risk of audits that they face due to increased compliance audits and show them how to protect themselves from failure to comply with new regulations. The seminar also covers state of Arkansas Incentives and Tax Credits that are available to many eligible businesses. The Instructors will be David Rickman, Jeff Simmons and Ted Walker of Arkansas Tax Associates, Inc.

The Westside School District recently broke ground for their new fine arts center. This facility will house the art, drama, band and choir departments and is expected to be completed in 2014. The auditorium will seat approximately 900 people.

The Arkansas State University Small Business and Technology Development Center will offer the free workshop “Website in Day” at the ASU Delta Center in Jonesboro on Tuesday, May 7th, for local small business owners and their employees.
Website in a Day will be held in Room 201, ASU Delta Center for Economic Development, 319 University Loop West on the ASU campus in Jonesboro from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. The event is co-sponsored by ConnectAR, the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Jonesboro Association, First Security Bank, Liberty Bank of Arkansas, and Simmons First Bank.
Approximately 97 percent of Internet users look online for local services – from restaurants to hardware stores, plumbers to dentists, – yet at least half of all small businesses don’t have websites.
“Website in a Day” will teach business owners how to build effective, easy-to-maintain websites with free online tools. The hands-on training will guide participants step-by-step through creating an attractive, functional, five-page website using ASU SBTDC-provided laptops.
The training is FREE, but space is limited to 15 attendees, and pre-registration is required. Introduction to QuickBooks Seminar
Introduction to QuickBooks Seminar to be offered by ASU Small Business and Technology Development Center Starting Tuesday, May 7th.
The ASU Small Business and Technology Development Center will be offering a four night hands-on Introduction to QuickBooks workshop beginning Tuesday, May 7th from 6 – 9 p.m. in Room 201 ASU Delta Center for Economic Development on the ASU campus.
Instructors will be Linda Harvey, Jones & Company, Ltd., and Sherry Hensley of Computer Tutor, both certified QuickBooks instructors. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn the basics of this popular computerized accounting program hands-on. Each session will cover different aspects of QuickBooks. Participants should be comfortable operating a personal computer in a Windows environment.
- Session I (Tuesday, May 7th) will cover setting up a new company, chart of accounts, writing checks and bank reconciliation.
- Session II & III (Thursday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 21st) details issues with inventory, adjusting & reporting inventory, invoicing, as well as accounts payable and receivables.
- Session IV (Thursday, May 23rd) shows how to set up information for payroll.
Each session is designed to be stand-alone but attendees are encouraged to plan to attend all four evenings to get the most out of the series. Seating is limited to 15 participants.
